Iron Man & AC/DC take over Times Square

Everyone here at EMC is a HUGE AC/DC fan (ok, maybe not eveyone, but I am, and I'm writing this so . . . ) Consequently we were thrilled to be tapped to help with the OOH component for the impending release of the Iron Man 2 soundtrack, featuring the music of these legendary rock icons.

Times Square is pretty much the center of the outdoor advertising universe and reaches over 1.5 million people everyday, while also crossing over to TV coverage and even creating some viral prescence on the web as people post their pictures, videos, etc.

With all the hype that's involved, we have to admit, it's pretty fun when we get to do something on the big stage. This display was carefully selected, not just for it's strategic location (it just happens to be right across the street from the Virgin Mega-store), but also for it's dimensions, to feel like an oversized comic book cover.

Mr. Iron Man is about 70 ft. tall, which is big even by super-hero standards, and he looks great at night too, almost like his super-duper chest battery pack is glowing as he towers over the crowds.

EMC helps CDC's fight with the Flu

As part of their ongoing efforts to educate the public about the Flu, and promote habits designed to reduce the spread of infection this Winter, the Center for Disease Control has turned to some highly targeted ads — and we're glad to be a part of the campaign!

A program of airport dioramas at major travel hubs across the country was chosen to take advantage of the huge numbers of holiday travelers criss-crossing the USA at the peak of flu season.

Dioramas were strategically selected to target key traffic locations where passengers were concentrated — like security check and baggage claim areas.

With this program, the Center for Disease Control was able to easily deploy their message to major airports, including Atlanta, Chicago, Washington DC, Dallas, and New York City.

Stretching a budget into statewide coverage!

When the Pennsylvania WIC (Women, Infants & Children) program wanted to reach their target audience in lower income areas across the entire state to promote healthier dietary choices and greater partnership, they tapped Douglas Gould & Company, a NY-based strategic communications firm who provided the research, messaging, strategy and creative for this re-branding campaign. Douglas Gould & Co. turned to EMC to help leverage the extensive reach of outdoor advertising.

The program promotes these choices by providing lower income families with subsidies that can be used specifically for healthy products like fresh vegetables, milk and whole grains.

Not only did the campaign need to be statewide, it also needed to maximize the agency’s limited advertising budget. The answer was a multi-media program that included bulletins, 30 sheet posters, and convenience store posters.

This allowed EMC to stretch the reach of the budget as much as possible, while keeping the message in the neighborhoods where it would do the most good.

Because the program specifically provides benefits to lower income families, placement of the advertising across the state had to be carefully targeted to reach their demographic.

In the end WIC ended up with coverage for 4 months in all 67 counties across the state of Pennsylvania. The program included 35 bulletins/posters and over 180 convenience store posters — most of which were targeted in stores that participated in the WIC program.

Nationwide Insurance: EMC takes them shopping with 9,000,000 consumers every month!

When Nationwide Insurance needed to find a cost-effective solution for reaching a large cross section of consumers in a number of diverse cities, we found a solution that would work across all of their markets and demos throughout the country — reaching over 9 million consumers each month!

The answer was a group of Mall Domination packages that were designed to make a bold statement in the premier shopping centers in each of the targeted markets.

These programs allowed Nationwide to take over each of the malls with a combination of displays including: Backlit Dioramas, Banners, Wall Wraps, Door Clings, Floor Graphics, Table Tops, Table Tents and even Digital Dioramas — capable of displaying full motion video.

This dominating and diverse media presence was the key to Nationwide being able to able to reach a total average monthly visitorship of almost 9,000,000 across their target markets.

The great variety of media meant that millions of shoppers would be exposed to Nationwide’s message at multiple locations, and in multiple formats throughout each of the malls.

From the research and planning phase, to overseeing the printing and installation of almost 1600 individual displays in 10 malls, in 5 different cities, the execution of this campaign was a daunting task, and one that Nationwide was able to have us completely manage.
